Info:
All in ones are by far the most convenient nappy because they are a one piece nappy. They are often the most preferred nappy with Dads and day-cares because they are so easy to use. All in ones were always known to be slow to dry. There is no doubt that some of them still are slow to dry but most brands are now using modern technology to build faster drying nappies, so look for faster drying nappies if you can. They can be a bit more expensive because you need to buy the right size to get the best leakproof fit. These make great day nappies because of their simplicity but they are not as absorbent as some of the other styles of nappies available.
Pros:
You only have to put on one piece so you dont require a cover for these because it is already attached
Great for in your nappy bag for convenience
You can add or remove absorbency (inserts / boosters) to suit
They a trim fitting nappy system if you use the correct sizing
Different fastening options – Velcro/Aplix and poppers
Cons:
They make take quite a long time to dry depending on the brand, fabric and how they are made.
You are washing the whole nappy every time it is used which means that the waterproof part is washed everytime.
They only provide a single leak barrier
You may find you go through stages where they dont always provide a perfect fit which could allow some leakage at different times.
Tips:
The reason they are more expensive than say a fitted nappy is because you are investing in a nappy and a cover with every all in one nappy.
A consideration to keep in mind with a All in One is that there is only one containment layer. When it is put on a baby you must ensure a snug fit to prevent leakage so dont over stuff the nappy or it may cause it to leak
Another thing to note is that the PUL (waterproof layer) is washed after every change. Therefore, it pays to spend a little more and purchase high quality All in One nappies. If the outer is made of a cheap fabric it may deteriorate quite quickly.
The main reason for the long drying time with many all in ones is simply that the cover is built into the nappy. This limits the air circulation through the nappy preventing the absorbent part of the nappy from drying. So if you are looking at all in one nappies, be sure to look for a fast drying nappy.
There are now a few one size all in one nappies available which makes this cost far less than purchasing many sizes but they do tend to still be expensive because of the workmanship involved.
All in Ones nappies are the perfect nappy to take out in your nappy bag!
Note: you need to wash the entire All in One nappy after every change
